Over the past seventeen years, Freire Charter School has built one of the most respected academic programs in the City of Philadelphia. Our high school campus has been the recipient of several local, state, and national awards for educational excellence. Now, we aim to bring the same excellent liberal arts education to even more Philadelphia students, with the addition of rigorous education in computer science and entrepreneurship.
Freire strives to break the status quo and to empower our students to achieve a place of greatness in society. Among our successes, we are proud to share the following statistics that highlight our students’ strength:
- In 2015, 96% of Freire graduates planned on enrolling in college in the fall.
- Graduates of Freire’s Class of 2015 earned over $3 million in scholarships, for an average of $40,571 per graduate.
- Freire students beat local, state, and national averages year after year in their college persistence rates. In each graduating class, 89% to 92% of all of our first year college freshmen return to college for their sophomore year, compared to just 69% nationally.
Founded in 1998, Freire Charter School is one of the oldest charter schools in the State of Pennsylvania. Since its inception, Freire has provided a joyous and safe learning environment where education can take place inside and outside the school walls actively and mindfully. Seeking to serve even more students, Freire opened a middle school campus in August 2012, and a second high school campus in August 2015. TECH Freire will be the fourth Freire campus.
TECH Freire will open with grades 9 and 10 in September 2016 for our first year. We will then add grade 11 in our second year, and grade 12 in the year following. Students applying to TECH Freire come from throughout the city of Philadelphia.
