Dear TECH Freire Families:
If SEPTA does not agree to a new contract with the Transportation Workers Union today all SEPTA service with the exception of regional rail will cease starting tomorrow, Tuesday 11.01.2016, and continuing for an indefinite period of time. This letter is intended to inform families of TECH’s plans as this situation develops.
Negotiations between SEPTA and the union are ongoing and a strike can still be avoided. If there is no strike, then all school activities will continue as scheduled with no adjustments.
If there is a strike:
In the event of a strike TECH will be open on Tuesday 11.01.2016 and Wednesday 11.02.2016 with a delayed start time of two hours. The school day will run from 10:00AM – 3:00PM.
Please note that after school activities and athletics will occur as regularly scheduled unless communicated otherwise. At the conclusion of the school day on Wednesday 11.02.2016 we will evaluate the situation and make any needed scheduling adjustments. The plan for the rest of the week will be shared with families on Wednesday.
Getting to TECH if there is a strike:
The two-hour delay is intended to make it easier for both students and staff to get to the building as it both provides more time for commuting and also helps folks avoid what is sure to be a crowded morning rush hour. We recommend considering the following options for getting your student to TECH:
* Carpooling with other families of TECH students living close to your home.
* Considering utilizing SEPTA’s Trenton regional rail line if possible:
o North Philadelphia Station located at 2900 North Broad Street in less than a 10-minute walk from the school.
o Students able to get to any regional rail station in center city (30th Street, Suburban or Jefferson stations) can ride the train to North Philadelphia Station.
o Student TransPasses will be accepted on all regional rail train rides within the city.
