Academic Advisors

2024-25 Advising Department: Vision, Goals & Roles

Vision

Through universal and targeted supports, advisors support students to do their best academically, explore postsecondary pathways of interest, gain self-insight, and lead a life of choice after high school.

Goals

College Readiness.

  • 100% of students will interact with 5+ college reps by the end of the year (College Fair, rep visits).
  • 50% of each grade level will set foot on a college campus by the end of the year.
  • 100% of 11th graders will have the opportunity to take the ACT.
  • 100% of 12th graders will get at least 1 college acceptance.

Career Exposure.

  • 100% of students will interact with 5+ professionals by the end of the year (Career Fair).
  • Career Artifacts (Network). 80% of 9th-11th graders will complete 3+ artifacts showing career exposure/readiness (including a resume) by the end of each year, totaling 8+ by the end of 11th grade. (Goal for Class of 2026 = 30%)
  • Industry Exposure (Network). 30% of the Class of 2025 will have completed three days of job shadowing.

Academics.

  • All students deemed academically at-risk (based on prior year summer school and retention and current year grades) will meet with their advisor to develop an Academic Contract including appropriate supports (i.e., teacher office hours, Learning Cafes, AA check-ins, etc.).
  • 100% of 12th graders will meet an Act 158 pathway to graduation (i.e., Proficiency, Composite, Evidence-Based).

Connect With Us!

Your Academic Advisors are always available through email, and are often available to meet in person!

Office Hours: After school from 3:00-3:30 PM in our office, Room 514

To meet during school hours, email your advisor to set up a meeting. You can also ask your teacher for a pass to come see us for urgent matters — we just ask that teachers reach out to us first to confirm that we are available.

Advising Department Calendar

College Exposure Throughout the Year:

  • Rep Visits: We bring admissions representatives from college and trade schools to TECH throughout the year so that our students, especially upperclassmen, can broaden and deepen their understanding of their options after graduation. In addition to our Fall College Fair, Rep Visits give students a more in-depth view of academic programs, campus life, financial aid, scholarships, athletics, etc. at specific institutions and give them facetime with college admissions professionals to increase college access.
  • Campus Visits: We also organize and share opportunities to sign up for visits to college campuses. Space is usually limited to around 40 students max (depending on campus capacity). In the last 3 years, we’ve taken groups to the Community College of Philadelphia, Delaware State University, Temple University, West Chester University, Thomas Jefferson University, Penn State Abington, Arcadia University, Morgan State University, & Coppin State University.

2024-25 Dates:

As mentioned above, we’re always adding college exposure opportunities to the calendar! Students are responsible for keeping up with their TECH email and checking the community corkboard on their grade level so that they are aware of the opportunities we provide. As it stands, here are the events we have already scheduled for the 2024-25 school year.
